I question

How many suns

I will see

December approaches

Like a runaway train

But then I wonder

How many suns

Do I actually need to see

Honky Tonk Butterflies

I only truly loved once

But she wasn't mine

To love

Never found another

That was quite the same

At all

So it was down the road

Once again

Till the next stop

In some old town

Looking for

 A Honky Tonk Butterfly

 To pretend to love

And fill the empty night

Yesterday's Man

Born  in the time of dirt roads

And radio news

Grew up with drive in theaters

In the back seat with Suzie Q

Returned from foreign shores

With PTSD before

PTSD was invented

Hiding from the demons

Behind booze and magic weed

Lost in love

She was wed to past mistakes

I now sit lost

In an era well past mine

Not knowing what tomorrow brings

Or understanding today

Sand and Time

The clatter of crockery

Heady aromas 

Of greasy food and smoke

The hum of conversation

Mixed with Hank Williams

From the battered jukebox

In the corner

The portly cook

Dirty apron

Cigar stub dangling ash

Scooping hash and eggs

On to chipped cracked plates

Served by a tired waitress

With a look of life

Upon her face

I have been here a thousand times

In a thousand different places

And when I am gone

This scene will die

Buried by sand and time

My sight blinded

I do not sail 

A ship from your past

My vessel my own

You have never stood

Upon its deck

Felt the wind

On your skin
Letting its rhythm
Embrace the soul
My navigation charts
Show no route
To sail

Time

At night

Deep in thought

I feel

Your gentle touch

A subtle reminder

More time has passed

Than lays before me

Cherish those little moments

A little deeper

The rush to reach 

Soul soothing goals

Be tempered

Fully enjoy

Each that come to pass

Create full memories

To hold

As the clock ticks

Life In A Bottle

Life giving substance

Wrapped in plastic

 Discarded with out thought

In rivers and streams
Lakes,Oceans

Forests and ditches

Along sidewalks

Hills,valleys

Fields and streams

Tossed out of cars

They bounce along highways

Without a care

While some

Lay for decades

In the local landfill
