Silly it seemed from afar
People chasing a ball in the grass
Until cajoled gently
To try my hand
Leading to a discovery of sorts
There is more to this silly game
Than I had realized
Wrapped up
In a small white ball
Fourteen clubs and eighteen holes
A little slice of life
With all the human emotion
One could want
While walking with
The joys that nature has to offer
The senses are fueled
By sight,sound and smell
The soul fed
By companionship,accomplishment,frustration
And yes I confess
The occasional little tantrum
Laughter a steady ingredient
The seed for stories to be told
At future gatherings
(yes my ball did land in that moose pie
so kindly deposited that morning)
The game doesn't seem so silly now
It's a release
A haven from the hectic world
And makes tomorrow a little brighter
I am quite obsessed
With that silly game
It is lovely you have found a game you enjoy. A good way to enjoy the outdoors.
ReplyDeleteOh how I wish I could agree but that silly game is one I loathe having tried to like it on many an occasion....but if one finds all these wonderful things about it, then one must definitely play.
ReplyDeleteThe more we play, the more we enjoy life. Glad you found the game that does that for you.
ReplyDeleteI can't relate, but know many people who share your delight.
This, for me, had the feeling of a journal entry at the end of a lovely day on the greens. You have drawn the scene: 'the joys that nature has to offer', the laughter and the enjoyment of 'the silly game' so wonderfully here, it is a pleasure to read!
ReplyDeleteA lovely piece. Happy you enjoy it.
ReplyDelete"Laughter a steady ingredient the seed for stories to be told at future gatherings"... yes undoubtedly!💜
ReplyDeleteDelightful reading for me.
ReplyDeleteIt brought to mind a quote from Einstein "Golf is a good walk spoiled".

To think that tee-off times just after dawn is normal and often forgetting there is a darling 'golf wife' patiently waiting at home. Enjoy your new-found interest, Bob!

Like how you described but never named.
ReplyDeletewe may not understand some of the games, but if the game can unite people and make them happy, it must be doing something good.
ReplyDeleteliked your retelling of how you were introduced to this "silly game". :)
Ha, I do hope you have a chance to play often. Golf brings a lot of people joy, and if a person enjoys it it is not silly at all!
ReplyDeleteI am happy you have found a pursuit that gives you pleasure.
ReplyDeleteI must admit I'm to lazy for that kind of physical stuff named sport.

I once accompanied my grandmother around a golf course (when I was a child). I thought the walk and scenery were lovely; the sport didn't interest me so much.
